It is almost like a festival if a movie is announced from talented director Maniratnam. After a long gap he has directed a multi starrer movie ‘Nawab’. Obviously there are huge expectations on the project keeping in view his previous track record. Let us check out if he could reach up to the expectations.
Story:
Bhupathi Reddy( Prakash Raj) is a mafia leader. Chinna Gaud (Thyagarajan) is his opponent. Two people disguised as police come and attack Bhupathi Reddy once. He and his wife (Jayasudha) gets severely injured in this attack, but somehow survive. With this attack his sons Varada (Aravind Swamy), Thyagu (Arun Vijay) and Rudra (Simbu) compete to take their father’s position. Thyadu and Rudra stay abroad. Meanwhile Bhupati dies suddenly in sleep. Thyadu wouldn’t come for his father’s last rights. With this Varada gets upset and refuses to give Thyagu the money he requires for his business. At the same time, Police rides Thyagu’s house. Both the brothers Thyagu and Rudra think that all this is Varada’s plan and while coming back to India to fight with their brother, face many problems. What are those problems, what happens between the brothers later, how did his father actually die, all these mysteries would unfold only when you watch the movie.
Plus Points:
- The entire star cast
- Cinematography
- Allruing back ground score by A R Rehman
Minus Points:
- Routine story of sibling rivalry
- Resembles the previous movie ‘Nayakudu’ which also had a mafia backdrop
Technical Aspects:
- Excellent production values
- Wonderful music by Rehman
- Impressive Cinematography by Santhosh Sivan
Verdict:
It is a Maniratnam style of sibling rivalry shown but not regular mafia stuff. Very much advisable to try out this weekend for Maniratnam fans.
