'Mahanati' showcases the life of the real Mahanati, the one and only lady superstar of South Indian Cinema Savithri garu . Director Nag Ashwin's extraordinary research in shaping up this biopic is appreciable.  The movie covers the childhood, career, love life, marriage, and downfall in career of the legendry Mahanati Savithri , while showing her relation with other prominent members of the film industry along the other side.

Keerthy Suresh nailed it in the lead role and deserves a great applause for the way she lived the life of the legendary actress. She carries all the expressions with such a grace which is quite difficult as Savithri herself was a queen of expressions. She could just speak with her eyes and so did Keerthy. Other characters in the movie too fitted perfectly well in their roles and did their best.

A journalist from Madras is asked to probe through the life journey of Savithri once she ends up in coma. The journalist Madhuaravani(Samantha)  investigates the happenings in the life of savithri from her birth to the last days and narrates the story.

The highs and lows of Mahanti's life , her rise to stardom, her love towards co-star Gemini Ganeshan is what is showcased in the first half. While the negative consequences of her marriage, her addiction to alcohol, her downfall in career till the end of her life is depicted in second half.

Plus Points:

  • Keerthy Suresh 's Performance
  • Detailing without diverting from the original story
  • Music and Background Score
  • All the artists' performances

Minus Points:

  • Length of the movie

Technical Aspects:

  • Nag Ashwin's Direction
  • Cinematography by Dani
  • Makeup and costumes
  • Art Direction
  • Production values

This movie is an excellent tribute to Mahanati Savithri garu and a must watch for everyone not just to know her story but for the performances of the entire star cast.
